Training, research, and exchange in Greece

for officials of the Italian Ministry of culture

In recent years, Greece has been a particularly dynamic and creative environment for museum studies and archaeological heritage management, with interesting and innovative architectural and managerial programmes that have become international case studies.
With lectures, guided tours and workshops, Italian archaeologists and architects – all of them officials of the Italian Ministry of culture – meet up with professors of the SAIA Scuola Archeologica Italiana di Atene, with colleagues of the Pireo Superintendency and of the Acropolis Museum, to debate current topics and challenges of the field. From the management and public enjoyment of archaeological sites to the main issues in the urban archaeological areas; from the methods of commercial archaeology to the public-private partnerships.
At the end of the training, the Italian officials are asked to draft and submit an applied research project dealing with the debated topics. An expert commission evaluates all proposals and selects the three projects that most align with the institutional needs of the Italian and Greek partners for future development.
Lastly, Greek experts are hosted by the Italian colleagues at their Institutions to complete the exchange of experiences and points of view.
