Bringing together different stakeholders, including national and international institutions, diplomatic representations, universities, businesses and cultural operators, the event Fostering Italy-Africa relations: enhancing business and cultural exchange intends to strengthen connections and collaborations between Italy and African countries in the field of training for the management of cultural heritage and cultural and creative entrepreneurship.

In light of the historical ties and the immense potential for collaboration between Italy and Africa, Fondazione Scuola dei beni e delle attività culturali and ICCROM are organising Fostering Italy-Africa relations: enhancing business and cultural exchange an international conference to facilitate action-oriented dialogue in two key areas: capacity building and cultural exchange.

Through speeches, working tables, and networking activities, the appointment aims to inspire solid results that contribute to the advancement of Italian-African relations, promoting a more interconnected and prosperous future for all stakeholders.
After the greetings of the organisers (Fondazione Scuola dei beni e delle attività culturali and ICCROM) and institutional statements by representatives of the Italian Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as well as the keynote speech by Avril Joffe, Head of the Cultural Policy and Management Department at the Wits School of Arts, University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa), the following panels are scheduled

  • The role of business and trade diplomacy in the internationalization processes between Italy and Africa.
  • The role of capacity building and training on cultural collaboration between Italy and Africa.

Undertaking Business in Culture

The partnership between the Fondazione Scuola dei beni e delle attività cultural and ICCROM is rooted in initiatives actively contributing to the socio-economic progress of the target regions, and the Undertaking Business in Culture programme, in particular, represents a significant step towards promoting a dynamic and inclusive community of practice, open to partnerships and twinnings for all involved stakeholders.

Undertaking Business in Culture is an international training and mentoring initiative that promotes youth entrepreneurship in the field of culture and heritage, on the African continent and in Italy. The Undertaking Business in Culture programme brings together the fundamental pillars of ICCROM’s mission – and particularly, foster employment, social inclusion and entrepreneurship on the African continent, the objectives of its flagship programme Youth.Heritage.Africa (YHA) – and the international mandate of the Fondazione Scuola dei beni e delle attività culturali, which contributes, with its expertise, to strengthening the skills of Italian and foreign professionals, promoting the internationalisation of Italian cultural institutions.

With Fostering Italy-Africa relations: enhancing business and cultural exchange, for the 15 young African and Italian entrepreneurs participating in Undertaking Business in Culture, the Italian study tour kicks off: after having been in Maputo (Mozambique) from 29 January to 2 February 2024, the participants are in Italy from 14 to 24 April 2024.
