Visions and perspectives for museums and cultural institutions: six studies towards a new normal

International conference

7 June 2021 ore 14:30 - 17:30

Experts from international organizations and individual researchers will present and discuss six studies on the impacts of the pandemic on the cultural sector and reflect upon the conditions for a new normal.
The panelists are experts from international organizations, like International Council of Museums (ICOM), Network of European Museum Organisations (NEMO), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development OECD, and individual researchers who have engaged in describing, understanding and anticipating the impacts of the pandemic on museums and proposing ideas for their future sustainability.

The Fondazione Scuola dei beni e delle attività culturali will present “Invisible Museums. Visions of a future for Italian museums after COVID-19 emergency“: a research focused on scenarios and priorities for the museum sector in the opinion of Italian museum professionals.

Our research

Between March and May 2020, the Fondazione Scuola dei beni e delle attività culturali carried out a research on the international literature on the impact of the pandemic on the cultural sector and specifically on museums. The scoping research led to the development of a questionnaire which was submitted in July 2020 to a sample of Italian professionals and experts in the field of cultural heritage. The resulting report, “Invisible Museums. Visions of a future for Italian museums after Covid-19 emergency”, focuses on scenarios and priorities for the future of museums.
