Creative Europe 2014-2020

Institution: European Commission

Creative Europe 2014-2020 was the European Commission's framework programme for providing support to the culture and audio-visual sectors with a budget of €1.46 billion. Following the previous Culture programme, it aimed at supporting Europe's cultural and creative sectors, funding artists and cultural professionals, cinemas, films and book translations. Creative Europe encouraged those active in the audio-visual, cultural and creative sectors to operate across Europe, to reach new audiences and to develop the skills needed in the digital age. By helping European cultural and audio-visual works to reach audiences in other countries, the programme aimed to contribute to safeguarding cultural and linguistic diversity. In particular, the Media sub-programme supported the EU film and audio-visual industries financially in the development, distribution and promotion of their work, while the Culture sub-programme aimed to help cultural and creative organisations to operate transnationally, to promote the cross-border circulation of works of culture, and to support the mobility of cultural players. In this context, Climate Change was seen as one of the most distressing problems and issues of modern times, that need to be addressed by arts. In 2021 the new Creative Europe Programme (2021-2027) has started.
